1. How different is the way teenagers entertain themselves nowadays compared to the past?

⇒ In the past, teenagers preferred physical activities and used to play with handmade toys; there were not high technology devices like computer, video game or smart phone for entertainment.

Nowadays, teenagers have more choices for entertainment than in the past; they enjoy many kinds of sport or spending time watching television, listening to music, playing online game or using social network.

2. What do you think might be the biggest difference?

⇒ I think the biggest difference is that teenagers used to take part in more physical activities than today.

Phong: Mẹ, khi còn là thiếu niên mẹ giải trí như thế nào?

Mẹ: À, trẻ con ở thời của mẹ có rất nhiều hoạt động thể chất trong bầu không khí mát mẻ: đá banh, đạp xe, thả diều… Bọn mẹ thường sử dụng thiên nhiên như một sân chơi. Bọn mẹ cũng dành nhiều thời gian cho nhau, vui chơi và nói chuyện trực tiếp chứ không phải qua màn hình như ngày nay.

Phong: Nghe tuyệt thật, thật sự.

Mẹ: Ừ. Và cách sống này giúp bọn mẹ khỏe mạnh và không thừa cân. Bọn mẹ không biết béo phì là gì. Bọn con gái không lo lắng về tăng cân và giảm cân.

Phong: Mẹ có ra ngoài ăn với bạn không?

Mẹ: Không, bọn mẹ hầu hết ăn ở nhà. Thỉnh thoảng bọn mẹ chỉ ăn quà vặt từ người bán hàng rong.

Phong: Con thích thức ăn ngoài phố. Thế mẹ có xem TV nhiều không?

Mẹ: Chỉ những nhà giàu mới có TV. Thay vào đó, bọn mẹ đọc rất nhiều. Không giống như xem ti vi, con cần phải sử dụng trí tưởng tượng của con khi con đọc. À! Bây giờ mẹ mới nhớ – mẹ từng giữ một quyển nhật ký.

Phong: Nhật ký? Mẹ đã viết gì trong đó?

Mẹ: Nhiều điều lắm: Các sự kiện, cảm giác, suy nghĩ bí mật của mẹ… con biết đấy.

Phong: Ngày nay chúng con chỉ cần đăng chúng lên Facebook.

Mẹ: Mẹ biết. Cuộc sống đã thay đổi nhiều rồi, con yêu.

⇒ They used to use nature as their playground.

2. How did they communicate with each other?

⇒ They met and talked face-to-face.

3. What was the advantage of this lifestyle?

⇒ It kept them healthy and in shape.

4. Where did they mostly eat?

⇒ They eat at home mostly..

5. What did Phong’s mother say about reading?

⇒ She said it was unlike watching television, you had had to use your imagination.

6. Did teenagers in the past publicise their emotions?

⇒ No, they didn’t. They used to keep a diary.

1. flying kites: I think it’s interesting. I wish I could try once.

2. keep a diary: I don’t like writing diary because it can be easily read and someone can find out your secrets.

3. read books: I really like reading books. It’s good that children spend more time reading than watching television or using computer.

1.hand-written homework.

⇒ It can prevent students from copying the answer from internet but it is also inconvenient and time-consuming. Especially, students that have bad hand-writing can get bad mark just because teacher cannot understand what they wrote. Therefore, I don’t want to preserve it.

2.playing traditional games like hide and seek, elastic-band jumping, skipping, and catch the chickens.

⇒ I want to preserve it because it’s also a good physical activity for children that helps them to be healthier and shape.

4.obeying your parents/teachers without talking back.

⇒ I don’t want it to be preserved. Sometimes, children should be allowed to speak up, to give their opinions so that parents can understand their children more.
